Life with two kids: The reviews are in!

andrewduckerWe had a parent/teacher review. Both children are about a year ahead on maths (Sophia literally scored 18/20 for the maths test a year up from her), doing really well on reading, and badly on writing.
This is not a surprise to either me or Jane. Dyslexia runs in my family (struggling with spelling, not reading) - and the school have noted Sophia's backwards letters/numbers, and inability to remember word complications. The school indicated that she's on a pathway to a dyslexia diagnosis.
Gideon isn't old enough to know whether he's trending that way. More likely that his sharing of my aphantasia means he doesn't respond well to their story cues. I had no interest in writing stories at his age either. His teacher will try different approaches and see if any of them click with him. He's perfectly imaginative, and enjoys fantasy, board games, and memorising minutiae about online nonsense to tell me all about on the way home, so I suspect there are approaches that will work for him.
In any case, their teachers are delighted with them and the amount of effort they both put in, and so we are too.
